I use these accessories with my Sony A6700 almost every day.
The Sony A6700 is an amazing camera and I’ve had it since day one, but you need a couple of accessories to make your photography/video life easier.
For traveling and long photo sessions, I seriously recommend at least the neck strap, cleaning kit and an extra battery.
7 Best Accessories:
- Camera Strap – Peak Design Slide Lite
- Charger – Neewer Dual USB Charger
- Battery – Sony NP-FZ100
- Memory Card – Kingston Canvas SDXC
- Cleaning – Altura APS-C Kit
- Microphone – Sony ECM-B10
- Gimbal – DJI RS3
If the Sony A6700 is your first camera, I highly suggest the first 5 items. Having an extra battery or memory card will allow you to shoot more freely, and a cleaning kit is more or less a requirement. Your lenses, sensor and camera body will be dirty quite often.
These accessories aren’t posted in any particular order, although the lower ones are a bit more expensive and less “needed” for most people.
1. Camera Strap – Peak Design Slide Lite
The Sony A6700 already comes with an official strap, so why would you buy the Peak Design strap?
- More comfortable to wear
- 10x faster to remove or attach again
- No logos or brand names on the strap itself
The biggest selling point of Peak Design is their genius way of removing and attaching the strap.
It only takes 2 seconds to remove it from your camera or put it back on!
It’s all thanks to those small red circles you see in the image above. It’s perfect if you often switch between gimbal and hand-held, or for placing your camera on a tripod.
You can’t do this with the Sony strap, because it’s annoying + takes at least 1 minute to remove both sides. Plus, good luck doing this a couple times per session.
What about safety and comfort?
It’s super comfortable to wear, and the strap can hold up to 200lbs. There’s no way either of those red circle attachments can fall out anyways, because you need to press hard + upwards in order to release them.
There are 2 straps available from this brand:
- Peak Design Strap Lite (neck/shoulder)
- Peak Design Cuff (wrist)
I recommend the neck strap to everyone; it’s the Peak Design Strap Lite. It goes around your neck (or shoulder) and replaces the official Sony one.
As I mentioned above, it’s comfortable, strong and ideal if you know you will be removing the strap often due to gimbal/tripod/hand-held. It’s not the cheapest thing ever (it costs around $50) but it will definitely make your life easier.
If you’re a videographer with a gimbal but want record hand-held whenever, this mechanism is a must!
This second one is a smaller and cheaper wrist strap; the Peak Design Cuff Strap. I only use it for photo shoots where I’m okay with the camera constantly being in my hand, and not so much for when I’m causally shooting (I prefer the neck strap for that).
If you’ve got the budget for only one, definitely go with the neck strap because this one is a bit more specific.

2. Battery Charger – Neewer Dual USB Charger
New Sony cameras don’t come with a dedicated charger (only a USB-C cable), so I recommend you to get the Neewer Dual USB charger.
You can only charge the A6700’s battery while it is in the camera itself, which isn’t convenient if you have 2+ batteries and want to charge them all overnight.
There is also an official Sony charger, but it costs like 4 times as much and can only charge 1 battery. Usually you want brand stuff only, but in this case there is no reason to overpay so much. I’ve had the Neewer charger for ages and used it hundreds of times; no issues or whatsoever with any cameras or batteries.
It has a USB-C and USB 2.0 slot, and displays how full both batteries are.

3. Extra Battery – Sony NP-FZ100
Sony A6700’s battery life is rated at ~550 shots. In real life, this means you can expect almost double the amount, so if you just photograph casually, having only 1 battery might even be okay for a few days.
If you do lots of 4K videos or just travel a lot, you should think about an extra Sony NP-FZ100 battery.
What about third-party, cheaper options?
Unfortunately it’s not recommended to use cheaper, no-name batteries with Sony cameras. Some won’t work, and some might actually damage your device. I know they are quite cheaper, but it’s not worth risking your entire camera setup because of this.
For video, you can expected between 80 – 120 minutes when recording in 4K at 30/60fps.
This means that if you are serious about videos (weddings, music videos, trips) and often shoot at 60fps, you’ll need at least 2 batteries! They go by so quickly, let alone if you shoot in a really hot/cold climate.

4. Memory Card – Kingston Canvas UHS-II U3/V90
The A6700 features 1x UHS-II compatible SD slot.
If you want the best memory card for the money, get the Kingston Canvas UHS-II. It’s a U3, V90 rated card. It can handle any video file bit rate (including 4K at 120fps), let alone RAW/JPEG files.
Oh, it’s also half the price of Sony’s card. Nearly identical performance, but both are more than enough for A6700.
What size to go with? That’s up to you, because you can also buy a few smaller cards instead of putting all of your files on one card.
For example, if you mainly shoot photos, a 64GB or 128GB card will be more than enough. For RAW, get a 128GB or 2 x 64GB. Personally I use a 256GB with the A6700 but I do a lot of 4K 120p recording.
For video, especially 4K at high bit rates, you’ll want a V90 rated card. V60 will be fine if you shoot in Full HD or lower quality 4K options. Again, 64GB is the bare minimum because you’ll quickly run out of storage.

5. Cleaning Gear – Altura APS-C Kit
Your lenses, screen and sensor will get dirty, it’s just a matter of time.
Most spots and dirt can be easily removed with a blower, cloth or a simple camera brush. Then there are those unlikely situations when your sensor is still dirty; that’s when you use a cleaning solution + swab to gently clean the sensor (how to video here).
It’s not dangerous and it only takes you a few seconds. If you often switch between lenses or shoot in windy conditions, you’ll want to carry at least a blower with you.
So many of my trips would have been ruined if I forgot to pack a few cleaning accessories with me. Smudges on front glass, LCD getting dirty, camera body having random sand, you name it.
Instead of buying all these things separately, I really recommend you to get a kit that covers it all.

6. Microphone – Sony ECM-B10

No cables, no adapters, just attach it to your camera and get high quality audio.
The Sony ECM-B10 is easily my favorite and extremely popular new microphone for any Sony shooter, thanks to its ease of use.
It’s a mini shotgun microphone with manual features, but you can trust the Auto mode in many situations.
There are 3 different pickup patterns (front, front+sides, front+side+back), 3 filters for cutting frequencies and gain levels.
If you are serious about audio quality and can’t replicate the sounds in a studio/stock footage, then a shotgun microphone is a must.

7. Gimbal – DJI RS3
Both the Sony A6700 and DJI RS3 gimbal were released in the same year, so if you want the latest and best, this is what I recommend (I mostly use it with full frame Sony’s).
A6700’s stabilization is good, and might even be enough for simple vlogging walking shots.
For anything more serious, the Catalyst Browse from Sony is not always ideal. It crops your image and unless your shutter speed was like over ~1/200, your results might come out ugly/choppy. It’s good, but not always perfect.
That’s where a gimbal comes in. You don’t need it unless you are serious about videography. Even though it’s super small and light, it’s still an item you have to carry around and it changes the whole “compactness” of the APS-C system.
For around $500, the DJI RS3 is honestly an amazing value.
- 3-Axis Automatic Lock – Turning on/off the gimbal doesn’t require you to lock every axis anymore, as the RS 3 does it automatically. A huge time saver compared to all other gimbals
- Up to 6.6lbs (3.3kg) load – The A6700 body weighs 1lb, a lens between 1-3lbs, and you’re still way under the maximum load
- Bluetooth – Connect to the camera once and you can always use the record button on the gimbal itself
- 12 Hour Battery Life – This gimbal lasts a very long time, I’m always amazed after a long shoot. The battery is not removable though.
You can buy the DJI RS3 at Amazon here.
